Signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Tehran University of Medical Sciences and the Erasmus University Medical Center of the Netherlands

The Memorandum of Understanding of the international Joint Cooperation between Tehran University of Medical Sciences and the Erasmus University Medical Center (Erasmus MC) of the Netherlands signed in order to develop scientific and academic interactions.

 

The Memorandum of Understanding of the international Joint Cooperation between Tehran University of Medical Sciences and the Erasmus University Medical Center (Erasmus MC) of the Netherlands signed in order to develop scientific and academic interactions.

According to the public relations and international affairs of the council for stem cell science and technologies, the Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the presence of Dr. Karimi, the president of the Tehran University of Medical Sciences and Dr. Jan Nowen, on behalf of the head of the Erasmus University Medical Center. The establishment of the Department of Organoids and Tumoroids was emphasized at the comprehensive center for stem cell sciences and regenerative medicine of the Tehran University of Medical Sciences.

Dr. Kurdi, international deputy of the Tehran University of Medical Sciences said that the Tehran University of Medical Sciences in recent years has been successful in collaborating with academic centers, universities and international organizations, adding that "these interactions have led to the Memorandum of Understanding and agreements on the cooperation and exchange of professors and students."

Dr. Jan Nowen, representative of Erasmus University Medical Center also introduced the Erasmus University Medical Center and said: The complex consists of a medical school and three university hospitals. He said: the main focus of researches at the Erasmus University Medical Center is on medical topics, adding that between 2008 and 2017, more than 764 common articles on the field of health between the two countries, Iran and the Netherlands, have been published. Tehran University of Medical Sciences and Erasmus Medical Center have published 50 joint papers during this period.

Dr. Tokameh Mahmoudi, a professor at the Erasmus University Medical Center, also spoke about the organoid technology and the activities of Knowledge-based companies in this field as a subset of Erasmus MC.

Dr. Hamidieh, the secretary of comprehensive center for stem cell sciences and regenerative medicine of the Tehran University of Medical Sciences, told about the steps taken to set up the department. He said: the Vice Presidency of Science and Technology allocated a budget for the establishment of three stem cell poles in medical universities, which Tehran University of Medical Sciences named as one of these three poles to launch a comprehensive center for stem cell sciences and regenerative medicine. He emphasized that education, research and technology are the goals of this center, as well as the creation of wealth from science as one of the tasks of the third and fourth generation universities.

Dr. Hamidieh added: the establishment of the Department of Organoid and Tumoroids in the comprehensive center for stem cell sciences and regenerative medicine of the Tehran University of Medical Sciences with the assistance of Dr. Mahmoudi, an associate professor and professor at the Erasmus University Medical Center with valuable experience in this field, is on the agenda.

The secretary of comprehensive center for stem cell sciences and regenerative medicine of the Tehran University of Medical Sciences pointed out that today, organoid technology is widely used in the treatment of Severe diseases. The first step is to use this technology to treat cystic fibrosis and colorectal and liver cancer in the Children"s Medical Center and Imam Khomeini Hospital.
