Significant developments in the field of stem cell sciences in Iran

Dr. Rasould Dinarvand at the First National Festival and International Congress on Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine stated, "Iran achieved significant developments in the field of stem cell sciences and technologies in the past decade and now it is time to apply the science for the benefit of society."

He emphasized the need for cell therapy regulations and said, "in order to achieve this goal regulatory organization must be set up which has been done. In the past year clinical guide for cell therapies has been issued."

He told about a number of companies which had gained GMP approval and said, "Currently several products are in clinical trial phase."

Head of the food and drug administration emphasized, "We hope approvals for new stem cell products to be given this year, therefore these products would be able to enter the market."

Next he mentioned that stem cell products focus is on special diseases and said, "Most products focus is on diseases which will lead to brain damage like Multiple Sclerosis. According to the regulations, four centers have been GMP approved."

Dr. Dinarvand emphasized that standards and regulations of the food and drug organization is in line with international standards and added, "this organization has joined several therapeutic protocols. Therefore it has to comply with international regulations on cell therapy."
