Nafiseh Bahiraei, a member of the workgroup of heart and bone of the stem cells science and technology development headquarter, since stem cells and regenerative medicine is an interdisciplinary field, several professions must gather to create a transplantable tissue. Therefore, scientists from various departments participated in the event to present lectures. This festival has created the opportunity for scientific exchange between Iranian and foreign scientists.
In terms of the ranking of Iran in the world in the field of stem cells, Bahiraei affirmed: Iran is ranked among the top 20 countries in the area of stem cells research. In addition, Iranian researchers have been able to use stem cells even in bone marrow transplant, skin and repair of damaged heart tissue, elimination of liver damages, repair of heart failure, and vascular failure in diabetes and cancer.
According to Bahiraei, this festival is a rare opportunity for scientific exchange between Iranian and foreign scientists, expressing: one of the most important issues regarding the holding of this event is presenting desirable projects and achievements obtained by domestic researchers. This opportunity can lead to improved ranking of Iran in the area of stem cells and regenerative medicine research by foreign researchers.
Pointing out the financial support of national macro plans, Bahiraei expressing: support of these researchers creates the possibility of focusing on research work instead of being concerned with financial issues of projects. Furthermore, holding workshops and meetings on ethical issues in using stem cells will facilitate the use of stem cells.
The second national festival and international congress of stem cells and regenerative medicine is being held (July 13th-15th, 2017) at Iran international conference center with the support of the council for stem cells science and technologies
