Introuction of the Network to Transplant Physiciansd
Fifth meeting of the expert committees of Iranian National Stem Cell Donor Network (INSCDN) was held in 21st June 2016 with the presence of secretary general, members of the expert committees, and representatives of transplant centers, cord blood banks and donor registries from Tehran, Mashhad, Kerman, Kermanshah, Tabriz, Shiraz, Yazd and Sari.
Fifth meeting of the expert committees of Iranian National Stem Cell Donor Network (INSCDN) was held in 21st June 2016 with the presence of Dr. Hamidieh, secretary general, Dr. Nikougoftar, secretariat in-charge, members of the expert committees, and representatives of transplant centers, cord blood banks and donor registries from Tehran, Mashhad, Kerman, Kermanshah, Tabriz, Shiraz, Yazd and Sari.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Nikougoftar announced the preparation of final drafts of unified forms and national standards for unrelated hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) donor registries and cord blood banks. Next, Dr. Mohseni, INSCDN assistant secretary, provided a concise presentation about the meetings and decisions of the expert committees in the recent months.
On the following, Dr. Shakiba provided a report of outlines and features of the national standards for unrelated HSC donor registries. He pointed out that the national standards have been written according to the standards released by WMDA in 2016. He also said that for preparation of the national standards, national laws and country-wide limitations have been taken into account. Next, Dr. Atarodi presented a report on the national standards for cord blood banking which were written based on the NetCord-FACT standards, and stressed out that these standards will be issued to all cord blood banks in the next month. After that, representatives of the donor centers and cord blood banks started to discuss about and ask questions on some of these standards, such as the necessity of uniformity of methods used to perform HLA typing for new donors, specification of the properties of the laboratories and individuals qualified to perform HLA typing, and criteria of individuals qualified to work in donor registries and cord blood banks. In continuing of the discussion, Dr. Hamidieh emphasized on organizing educational workshops and a one-day symposium on HSC donor registry and HLA Typing.
The meeting continued by two brief presentations from Dr. Monzavi, INSCDN assistant secretary, one which was about IT infrastructures of INSCDN and the other one which was about latest statistics on unrelated HSC transplantation in Iran comparing with other parts of the world. After that, there was a time for the representatives of the Iranian donor centers and cord blood banks to provide a succinct report on the progress of their centers, the measures taken and the statistics recorded from their adult donors and cord blood units.
At the end of the meeting, Dr. Hamidieh emphasized that all Iranian donor centers (including Shariati Hospital of Tehran, Taleghani Hospital of Tehran, Childrens Medical Center of Imam Khomeini Hospital of Tehran, Iranian Blood Transfusion Organization, Transplantation Bank of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, Imam Reza Hospital of Kermanshah and Montaserieh Hospital of Mashhad) have fully received their 2015 budget. He mentioned that establishing and equipping the donor centers can be done with the cooperation of medical universities. He also added: the old and new donor centers will receive this year’s financial support if they are active in updating their information and in recruiting new donors.
He also stressed the point: "What currently matters the most for the country is the unity and integrity of the country-wide donor centers and cord blood banks, through which prompt improved services will be provided to patients in need of HSC transplantation and a platform will be maintained to expand the international collaborations."
