The unveiling ceremony of the new achievements of Bon Yakhte Royan Technologies Company on Wednesday, November 25, 1401, with the presence of Dr. Hassan Muslimi Naini, President of Jihad University, Dr. Mehdi Islampanah, Vice President and Head of the National Standards Organization of Iran, Dr. Amir Ali Hamidieh, Secretary of Council for Development of Stem Cell Science and Technology. Dr. Moslami Naini pointed out that the efforts made so far in Royan Research Institute to achieve the full cycle of technical knowledge of stem cells are praiseworthy and continued: isolation, extraction and storage of stem cells have been done in this research institute for a long time.
He stated that research shows that the cells in the umbilical cord are rich in hematopoietic stem cells that can be used to treat many diseases, especially blood diseases, adding: But these cells were discarded as biological waste after the birth of the baby. For this reason, the umbilical cord blood bank of the fetus has been formed and at present nearly 190,000 umbilical cord blood samples are stored in it.
The head of Jihad University continued by saying that in this center it is possible to process other birth products as well: there are umbilical cord, fetal membrane and various cells in the placenta, all of which are considered as valuable products in the medical field and can be used in treatment and it has been said that the umbilical cord is considered as a health savings for children.
He stated that the progress in the field of stem cells and the development of clinical trials presents a bright future for us in the field of regenerative medicine and said: "God willing, with the experience gained at the Royan Research Institute, we will be able to work in various fields of engineering, agriculture and other fields of Jihad University of Royan." The secretary of stem cell science and technology development staff, stating that stem cell is an interdisciplinary field, emphasized: this technology is engineering and biology side by side, and it is necessary to benefit from a strong engineering team, and this is not only the doctors of basic cell science, but also the need It has engineers who are in different fields so that they can advance this field.
Stating that we cannot draw lines between sciences and a common language should be created, he said: The integration of medical and engineering technologies has been done well by the university jihad and these matters should be supported. In this ceremony, Dr. Zarrabi, referring to the history of the formation of the Royan Stem Cell Technology Company and stating that this company started working with the efforts of the late Dr. Saeed Kazemi Ashtiani, said: Currently, there are 185,000 in the private cord blood bank of Royan and the public bank. Five thousand and 100 samples have been stored, and in this sense, we are the largest hybrid blood bank in the Middle East. He stated that umbilical cord blood is 80 to 200 ml, which can be collected during childbirth in five to seven minutes.
