Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cells Technologies

The secretary of the council for stem cells sciences and technologies explained about determining the important role of research centers of the country in cell and gene therapy studies during a joint meeting with the national research center of genetic engineering and biotechnology.

According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, Amir Ali Hamidieh, secretary of the council for stem cells sciences and technologies, explained about the important role of research centers of the country during a meeting with authorities of the national genetic engineering and biotechnology research center, emphasizing the necessity of performing projects that lead to the production of products and patents.

Hamidieh mentioned the prioritized nature of thalassemia gene therapy project, which is one of the problems of the country, and emphasized the implementation of the international thalassemia project with the help and support of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, demanding more activities in the international level.  

He expressed his hope about considerable cooperation between the mentioned research center and relevant knowledge-based companies to development this area of science in the country.

During the meeting, Mostafa Motalebi, head of the national genetic engineering and biotechnology research center, explained about the current and performed activities of the center. After that, the research deputy of the research center pointed out the high potential of faculty members of this center and the sufficient space in the place, considering the research center a suitable place for establishing the national gene therapy center of the country.

At the end of the meeting, which was held to evaluate the necessary infrastructures for producing structure bank and gene expression vectors for gene therapy, the present members emphasized the cooperation with relevant organizations to support the gene therapy projects.

It is worth noting that this meeting was held in the presence of Amir Ali Hamidieh, secretary of the council for stem cells sciences and technologies, Mostafa Motalebi, head of the national genetic engineering and biotechnology research center, Ehsan Arefian, deputy of research, education and development of human resources of the council for stem cells sciences and technologies, research deputy of the national genetic engineering and biotechnology research center, and a number of managers and faculty members of the mentioned research center.
