According to the public relations and information center of the vice presidency for science and technology affairs, the closing of the third national festival and international congress on stem cells and regenerative medicine was held at the Iran International Conference Center on December 1 in which Eshaq Jahangiri, first vice president of the government and Soorena Sattari, president of vice presidency for science and technology affairs were special guests.
The presidency of vice president for science and technology affairs considered development and progress in stem cells and regenerative medicine field as one gate toward the knowledge-based economy horizon and stated: The amazing and significant growth and development achieved during the recent years in Iran in the field of stem cells and regenerative medicine is a silver lining that can improve our country’s rank toward knowing unknown borders of knowledge and technology several steps.
Sattari mentioned our pioneering in science and technology and addressed to it as the strong point of the country in wealth-creating, occupation and export in near future.
According to the president of vice presidency for science and technology affairs, we have managed to overtake other countries such as Turkey and Israel in stem cells technologies through a continuous and increasing growth. Iran has attained the first rank in the region on science and technology so far.
Sattari addressed the blossom of technologist and knowledge-based companies active in the field of stem cells and regenerative medicine as on obvious symbols of capability of Iran in extending knowledge borders and commercializing technology and said: More than 120 Iranian companies are active in the field of stem cells from which 80 ones have understood their importance and made their role in ecology of the knowledge-based economy of the country more powerful and stronger whereas imagining the presence and role-making of this number of active cellular companies was farfetched a couple of years ago.
According to the head of the council for stem cells sciences and technologies, in addition to magnificent mutation in commercializing knowledge-based products of knowledge-border researches of this field, very good occurrences have happened in students’ level such as holding the second student Olympiad on stem cells. Recently, we are making the culture of propagating this technology so that we manage to guide students’ potential capability to become owners of knowledge-based companies and successful researchers in futures.
The president of vice presidency for science and technology affairs talked about the necessity of extending the ecology of observing the private sector’s activity more and more and continued: In order to manifest research’s activities, it must contribute a considerable part of the country’s economy and GNP to itself for which, the investment ecology and the private sector’s activity in knowledge-based field should be assisting.
According to Sattari, the emerge of successful knowledge-based companies with the capability of creating value added, creating occupation and export, needs the convergence, coordination and cooperation of different fields. Although this process started two years ago, creating value added and occupation of knowledge-based companies in different fields of technology including stem cells have approached it to the fact recently. Presence of successful companies from engineering and technical disciplines working in the field of stem cells and regenerative medicine is a proof of being successful in this field and is the necessity of creating a flat path for continuing this way.
The president of vice presidency for science and technology affairs also mentioned the other mission of this vice presidency in the vein of developing the ecology of the knowledge-based economy and said: Knowledge-based economy development was a product of the 11th government which continuous its way with serious will and power in the 12th government as well. The result of this strategy is the role-playing of more than 3700 knowledge-based companies and myriad start-ups with more than 60 thousand billion Tomans income in the country’s economy’s sky. This process is going to have an ascending trend this years.
